California & Oregon
YES indeed, what massive wine growing regions, right?
According to the Wine Institute, there are more than 107 American Viticultural Areas, or federally recognized growing regions in California alone! (What a testament to the variety of microclimates in the state, right?) Wine-type grapes are grown in 46 of California's 58 counties, covering 522,000 acres.
AND Oregon, well, the big boys - Willamette Valley AVA (with 6 nested-AVAs) and the Southern Oregon AVA with (5 nested-AVAs). Parts of the Columbia Gorge, Walla Walla Valley and the Snake River AVA . . . There are over 725 wineries within oregon and over 1,052 vineyards, a much smaller scale than California but very delicious!
SO, the focus tonight is going to a much wider broad stroke, if you will, of both these fantastic wine growing regions.
You simply must come out and see for yourself just what these regions have to offer. ~David~
